Judah Guerra currently attends The University of Texas at Austin’s Jazz Studies program under the direction of Diego Rivera. In his first year as a teaching assistant, Guerra has seen professional growth through leadership roles in a rapidly growing program, alongside the opportunity to play with local performers like Aubrey Logan, Mike Sailors, Daniel Dufour, Christian Wiggs, Ilya Serov, and Diego Rivera. Since moving to Austin, he has also performed with internationally-recognized traveling artists such as Kate Kortum, Helen Sung, Summer Camargo, Brian Newman (Lady Gaga), and Jason Goldman.

Acclaimed bassist Rodney Whitaker has coined the term “each one teach one”, which refers to moving toward a family culture in jazz. Guerra credits Rodney Whitaker, Diego Rivera, Walter Blanding, Michael Dease, Diego Rivera, Randy Napoleon, Xavier Davis, Anthony Stanco, Robert Edwards, John Fremgen, and Paul Deemer as the mentors that he draws upon in his music and teaching.

Guerra also credits his family, both immediate and extended, for their influence on his musical journey. His sister, Milagro Guerra, is a NYC-based singer-songwriter that included Judah on the track “Beach Boy”. His brother Linus is a music educator in West Michigan, his mother is the Director of Music and Arts at the church he grew up in for over 20 years, and his father plays percussion and continues to push him to greater heights.

With his debut album Student of the Way, Guerra considers life and music through the lens of growth—which he has learned go hand-in-hand. At 22, Guerra invites audiences on the journey of a student to teach of this ‘Way’, ultimately helping us remember what helped us get to the places we are at.
